Upon a Window Pane

April Spice

The spice of life…..

can be risky

and complicated

and even scary

    …and sublime

and hopeful

and stimulating

and even worth it

  … most of the thyme!

Bread

Bread from McKenzie’ Bakery in Kalamazoo. Pane di como. It is good.

Blue Plate Special

Easy Breakfast Idea for a Vegan

I cut up a half of a banana, sliced in some mango, plopped on a quarter cup or so of Daiya Black Cherry Yogurt…quick and tasty! It barely qualifies as a recipe, more like an idea and an excuse for me to take a picture of something I like liking at. (At which I like looking?)

Chili on a Cool Day

Small batch:  serves two to four depending on appetite!

Got a new pan and I just had to put it to the test — thank you Wolfgang Puck and T J Maxx!

This is what I used:

1/4 teaspoon each:

–Turmeric       –Thyme    –Curry Powder

–Ground Cinnamon     –Ground Ginger

–Salt                –Black Pepper

1/2 teaspoon each:

—Garlic Powder      —Onion Powder

2 tablespoons:      —Chili Powder

Also:

–1 large clove of garlic – smashed and very finely chopped

–1/2 small onion     –1/2 green pepper           –1/2 orange pepper

–1/2 can of pinto beans

–1/2 of a box of rustic cut tomatoes (about 14 ounces or so)

–1/2 box of low sodium vegetable broth (about 16 ounces or so)

This is what I did:

Sautéd onions and peppers in a little vegetable broth

Added beans and tomato

Sprinkled in the spices

Added in the garlic clove

Simmered for about a 1/2 hour or so

I just tasted it because it seemed like the right thing to do before posting this….it was fun to experiment with spices I don’t usually use in chili……..but you never know………. I gotta say:  It is GOOD!

I DON’T

Day fifteen of my retirement

and I am still a bit too concerned about what kind of problems are being had……

…….without me there

I have to keep reminding myself

I DON’T WORK THERE ANYMORE!

And I feel good about that fact, but I’m carrying on with a residual sense of responsibility for it all

I’ve had a few calls from them with questions and I’ve provided answers

and I worry that my answer might not be good enough

but I don’t want to get drawn back in because

I DON’T WORK THERE ANYMORE!

And I blame only me — not them– for the fact that I still feel some angst about the whole thing

They can ask anything.  I’m the one with the choices

and I can answer, or not, because

I DON’T WORK THERE ANYMORE!

…..and for my mental and emotional and physical health,

I need to just relax for awhile

and get over this cold, and see what unfolds

as I head down this uncharted road

I have shouldered a lot of responsibility for a hell of a long time

I gave (literally) years of notice as to when  I would be retiring.

I have earned the right to say no and if I hadn’t or haven’t,

it’s still not up to me to fix anything because

I DON’T WORK THERE ANYMORE!

And the people in charge might actually not be expecting anything more of me

This could be all in my own head

because they may understand even better than me that

I DON’T WORK THERE ANYMORE!

Looking at the Moon. In the Snow. Without socks

Beautiful, hazy moon tonight! The snowy driveway feels good under feet with socks and no shoes — it doesn’t even feel cold on the ground; the air, though, WAY cold!!

Resta Qui

Preparing for a plot to hatch

What would be the mood to match?

Who would find the point to catch?

Remember, to remember

 don’t get too far ahead

don’t catch up to the future

stay right here instead

Summer Days

I am quite smitten with these last, lingering days of summer

The sunny breezes and green, green grasses

And the incredible blue of the blue, blue skies

With soft and textured and many-layered clouds

and all the impossibly gorgeous colors

blending together

It could make a person wax poetic

if one knew how to wax that way
